The Caddis Lifecycle

Caddis larvae use pieces of lake bottom debris to build protective casing around their soft wormlike bodies.

The larvae live and hide in its protective casing feeding on decaying lake vegetation

After pupation the caddis pupa leaves its casing and swims to the surface.

The caddis pupa breaks free of its pupal shuck at the surface and transforms into an adult fly. The adult skitters across the lakes surface drying its wings for flight. The V shaped wake usually gets the attention of hungry trout.
